First Look at Vestas Sailrocket 2.

    The SailRocket Team today launches its second-generation speed sailing boat from East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Vestas SailRocket 2 is designed to be significantly faster than its predecessor, with the ultimate aim of breaking the ‘Outright World Speed Sailing Record’.

New build TP52 Container to compete on 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit.

    The new Container, owned by Udo Schütz from Germany, will debut in the world’s leading monohull class, the TP52 Series on the Audi MedCup in 2011. She will compete with an experienced, professional crew led by Markus Wieser, a European Champion and World Championship runner-up in the Dragon Class. Wieser is also experienced match racer and has frequently sailed in the afterguard aboard TP52s.

    RS:X Asian Grand Prix Singapore edition featured 10 specially built new light weight RS:X Evolutions. Be sure that this is an evolution of the existing RS:X. It comes from the same mould as the RS:X so it is the same shape as the existing RS:X and if it were on the market today, it would be the same price as the existing RS:X.

    SpeedDream design and engineering continues to advance, and a decision has been made to build a scaled down 35-foot version of the record setter monohull. Hundreds of hours of computer engineering and analysis has already been completed for the SpeedDream design, but there is nothing like a scaled prototype version out sailing in actual conditions to test the unique ideas and technical solutions that are at the heart of this project.

    Barcelona World Race will have the British skipper, Alex Thomson, join after today being declared medically fit after making a satisfactory recovery from the emergency appendectomy on 29th December which prevented him from starting second edition of the two handed round the world race on Friday 31st December.

    While Barcelona and the rest of Spain was last night and today celebrating the Festival of the Three Magic Kings, the Barcelona World Race skippers, for the first time in recent days, shared the same present; the gift of good breezes. From the front to the back of the fleet wind speed were at least 15 knots, and boat speeds almost all reached double digits at times.
